Several years ago, the incredibly talented jewellery designer, Catherine Best, created a ‘one-of-a-kind’ piece – gold, diamonds, emeralds and other precious stones combined in sinuous, entwined tiger form to become the famous Shere Khan necklace. Symbolic of hope for wild tigers, the necklace was the centrepiece of Born Free’s recent 30th Anniversary celebrations. It stunned everyone who saw it – raising awareness about the plight of the wild Bengal tiger and work for the protection of the species through Born Free’s Satpuda Tiger Landscape Project (STLP). Unknown to many Danielle is actually the perfect model as her grandfather is an Indian from Bengal so this charity is close to her heart as well as her roots.
The Born Free Foundation is a dynamic international wildlife charity, founded in 1984 by the actors Bill Travers MBE and Virginia McKenna OBE, stars of the iconic film Born Free, and their son, Will Travers OBE, the charity’s President. Born Free takes action worldwide to save lives, stop suffering and protect species in the wild. Born Free never forgets the individual. Our emergency teams rescue vulnerable animals from appalling lives of misery in tiny cages, often barren of any enrichment, and gives them lifetime care in spacious bush sanctuaries.
